Are you looking for a way to elevate your composition notebooks beyond a traditional printed cover? I’ve been experimenting with ways to add more dimension to my acetate notebooks, and this project takes the idea in a completely different direction. Let’s get started!
How to Make a 3D Composition Notebook with Cricut
I created this 3D composition notebook using my Cricut, a clear acetate cover, and the notebook’s actual cardboard cover to create the dimensional element.
The result is a beautiful floral cross and Bible design that extends beyond the traditional notebook cover. I also embossed the acetate for another layer of texture, but the embossing is completely optional.
Introducing the 3D Cross Notebook Digital Project Kit
Instead of turning this post into another full step-by-step tutorial, I created a 3D Cross Notebook Digital Project Kit with the files and technical information you need to recreate the project.
The digital project kit includes:
- Project-ready Cross PNG
- Cross Front Cover PDF
- Inside Cover PDF
- Back Cover PDF
- Detailed project instruction guide
- Cricut sizing, printing and cutting information
The Cross PNG is already prepared for the project, so you don’t have to figure out how to set up the artwork yourself. The detailed guide also includes the exact Cricut and printing information I used to make my notebook.

What Makes This Composition Notebook 3D?
This is my favorite part of the project.
Rather than simply layering an embellishment onto the front of the composition notebook, we’re actually using a portion of the notebook’s cardboard cover to create the dimensional element. The floral cross becomes part of the notebook structure itself, extending into the clear portion of the cover. The acetate then creates another visual layer over the notebook. You can leave the acetate clear or take it one step further and emboss it like I did.
Please note: The embossed texture shown on my finished notebook is optional and is not included as a digital file in the project kit. I have a separate tutorial showing how I create the embossed effect on acetate notebook covers.

Watch Me Make the 3D Composition Notebook
The Digital Project Kit gets your files prepared and gives you the Cricut, printing and cutting information you need. Then you can craft along with me in the video as I turn those pieces into the finished notebook.
In the video, I show you how I prepare the printed covers, laminate the pieces that need additional protection, transform the composition notebook cover into the dimensional element, attach the cross, and finish everything with the clear acetate cover.
Take Your Acetate Notebooks One Step Further
What I really like about this project is that we’re not simply changing the artwork on another composition notebook. We’re changing the construction of the cover itself. You end up with several layers working together: the printed notebook design, the dimensional floral cross, the clear acetate and, if you choose to add it, the embossed texture. It’s a completely different way to use the composition notebook cover, and now that I’ve developed the technique, I can already see plenty of possibilities for taking this style of notebook in new directions.
