Hello friends! Sizzix and CardMaker Magazine have joined forces to bring you a flurry of card projects, inspiration and ideas featuring cardmaking dies by Stephanie Barnard. I am so excited to be kicking off the shindig with a sunshine filled Birthday Card!
Let’s get started!
We all love to say “Happy Birthday” with a fun and cheerful card, no matter how many candles there are on the cake! There’s nothing more cheerful than a little ray of sunshine and a kite blowing in the wind on a hand made birthday card, wouldn’t you agree?
For this project, I used the Sizzix Big Shot, new tinted cutting pads, Precision Base Plate, Magnetic Platform, Happy Birthday Step-Ups Framelits Die set, Kites & Sail Boat Triplits, Hello Sunshine Triplits, yellow cardstock, burlap and vellum from the DCWV Home Decor Premium Paper Collection, white and black card stock, baker’s twine, washi tape, adhesive and black ink.
I am so excited about the new tools Sizzix released recently to make cardmaking easier! The new tinted cutting pads are wonderful and are available in Watermelon, Grape and my personal favorite Mint! I just love how easy I can find them in my creative space…ahem I mean, creative mess. I also absolutely love the new Precision Base Plate, it makes die cutting intricate dies so much easier, I use it whenever I am creating with Thinlits, Framelits and Triplits.
Starting with the Happy Birthday Card Framelits, create a sandwich using the magnetic platform, precision base plate, card-stock and a cutting pad. Then pass it through the Big Shot. Using black cardstock, die cut the words HAPPY BIRTH DAY and adhere them to the card. Then, using the scalloped rectangle Framelits and yellow burlap, die cut a panel for the left side of the card and adhere it to the card. Next, from the Hello Sunshine Set, die cut four small clouds and one large cloud from white card-stock. Ink the edges with black ink and adhere one small cloud on the back of each word. Set the other two clouds aside.
Moving on to the Sun Triplets, die cut one happy sun from yellow card-stock and a shadow die cut from the vellum. Ink the edges of the sun and adhere it to the vellum and layer on the card with the two remaining clouds. Die cut the word SUNSHINE on black card-stock and add it to the card. Next, using the large kite and kite frame dies from the Kite Framelits set, die cut the kite frame and several kite bows from black card-stock and the kite from the vellum. Layer the assembled kite on the card, adhere, then add baker’s twine for the kite tail and glue on the bows. Next, add black and white washi tape under the words BIRTH and DAY for extra detail.
And there you have it! A cheerful Birthday card to spread a little sunshine!

Your card is really amazing. I love the little bows on the kite string and the kite itself is wonderful too.
