Have you seen the new Sizzix Big Shot Plus? If not, you have to check it out! It’s bigger, sturdier and I just love it. On top of it being the perfect size for my party projects, I love the white and grey color palette. It’s the perfect blank canvas for a little personalization!
So, today I’m sharing how I added a little bit of “me” to my Sizzix Big Shot Plus with glitter vinyl from Expressions Vinyl. If you love making projects with vinyl, I encourage you to visit the Expressions Vinyl site, there is a vinyl and color for almost any application! And I love how easy it is to cut Vinyl with my Big Shot, Big Shot Plus and Big Shot Pro (yes, I really do have one of each). So many possibilities!
How to Personalize Your Sizzix Big Shot Plus with Vinyl
For this project I used the Gold Glitter Adhesive Vinyl that I received while attending the SNAP conference in April along with my Big Shot Plus, Feather Bigz Texture Fades Die, Friendship Thinlits and Adventure Words Thinlits. I chose to add “enjoy the moments” to my Big Shot Plus as a little reminder to myself to stop and smell the roses.
As a full-time working mother of three, wife, party planner and blogger my life can get hectic. So, I like to remind myself that a busy life isn’t necessary a full life, and I need to sometimes stop doing and just “enjoy the moments”. I also wanted to add a few on trend feathers, just because I like them. The best part is when I want to change it up, I can just remove the vinyl and choose a whole new look!
Because of the intricacy of the dies, I started by cutting a piece of paper transfer tape (included with the glitter vinyl I received) and placed it with the sticky side down on a piece of the vinyl with the glitter side up. The Big Shot Plus and Big Shot have no problems cutting through both the vinyl and transfer tape. This made it so much easier to remove the vinyl from the Thinlits and apply it to the machine.
Then using the Precision Base Plate, Magnetic Platform and a Cutting Pad I created a sandwich. The sandwich for Thinlits on the Big Shot Plus is the same as with the Big Shot when using the Precision Base Plate and Magnetic Platform. The sandwich is: Magnetic Platform, Cutting Pad, Vinyl with transfer tape facing up, Thinlits then a Cutting Pad. Then I passed it through the machine. I repeated this process for all three words: enjoy the moments.
This is how the word will look when cut with the transfer tape on top of the vinyl. The transfer tape held the design together nicely and made the vinyl easy to apply.
To adhere the vinyl, I removed the backing and placed it on my Big Shot Plus, applied a bit of pressure and peeled off the transfer tape.
Next, using the Feather Bigz die, I created a sandwich by placing another piece of vinyl with transfer tape side up on top of the die and placed it between two Plus Cutting Pads. Then I passed it through the Big Shot Plus.
Now for the experimental part, embossing vinyl! I wasn’t sure how this was going to work but thought I’d give it a go. So I placed the feathers in the embossing folder and attached them with masking tape to keep them from moving around.
I then passed it through the machine by using the Big Shot Plus Platform. The sandwich for embossing folders is: Platform, Plus Cutting Pad, Embossing Folder and second Plus Cutting Pad.
Next, I removed the vinyl backing and placed the feather on the side of my Big Shot Plus. Then slowly and carefully peeled off the transfer tape.
And it worked!!! How cool does that look? A bit of warning, if you apply too much pressure when applying the embossed vinyl, you may lose some of the embossing detail, so apply just enough pressure to make sure it adheres, but not too much. The good thing is, if the embossing doesn’t “take”, the feathers look beautiful without embossing. But if you feel adventurous, give it a go and see how it turns out!
Lastly, I added another feather to the front of my machine.
What do you think? Do you love it as much as I do?
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you are inspired to add a little “you” to your new Big Shot or Big Shot Plus!
Happy Crafting!
