DIY “He Can Heal” Cancer Awareness Sweatshirt
Cancer awareness is very close to my heart. I’ve worked in the Cancer Treatment industry for over 27 years and lost my Dad to Colon Cancer when I was just starting my career. So, needless to say, Cancer Awareness is part of my daily life. Cancer touches us all in one way or another, so I know I’m not alone. When I saw this design I knew I needed to download it and make a version of my own for a sweatshirt and share it with you all!
Before we start, did you know that each ribbon color signifies a different type of Cancer? See the list below to help you spread Cancer Awareness and HOPE for HEALING for the Cancer Fight nearest to your heart.
What you will need:
- Sweatshirt
- Cricut Machine (I used my Cricut Explore 3)
- Heat Transfer Vinyl in 3 colors (I used Cricut Smart Iron On Vinyl in Red, White and Glitter Gold)
- Cricut Roll Holder (optional but comes in handy with the Smart Materials!)
- Heat Press (I used my Cricut AutoPress)
- Tshirt Guide
- Teflon Sheet
- He Can Heal Cancer Design (I changed up the cross in Cricut Design Space for my shirt. Once you download the SVG you can upload it in Cricut Design Space and make it your own by switching up the fonts or adding graphics.)
I created a video tutorial to show you the process…check it out below.
Let’s go over the steps:
Step 1:
Download the design and import it into Cricut Design Space. Make any adjustments you want with colors, etc., and send it to your Cricut. Load your vinyl per the prompts within Cricut Design Space and cut! Don’t forget to use the attach feature per color of vinyl to keep the graphics in the perspective space, it makes it easier to line up the finished design. This may result in more vinyl waste, but it’s much easier to line up a graphic using the attach feature.
Step 2:
Set the Heat Press to the temperature and time per the Cricut Heat Guide. Your temperatures will vary from my project depending on the materials of your project and the vinyl you are using.
Step 3:
Press the sweatshirt and preheat per the Cricut Heat Guide.
Step 4:
Weed the vinyl. I always like to layer them before pressing to make sure everything lines up.
Step 5:
Using the t-shirt guide, center the design on your sweatshirt and press each layer at a time. Use a Teflon sheet on top when pressing. (Remember, you can layer regular HTV on top of each other, but you shouldn’t layer on top of glitter HTV. To get the layered look with glitter HTV, you’ll want to either have Glitter HTV be your last layer or use the splice feature and not actually layer on top of it.)
And that’s it! I hope you find this tutorial helpful and are inspired to create your own He Can Heal Cancer Awareness sweatshirt! Looking for another sweatshirt project? Check out this DIY Sweatshirt Pillow.
