Planning a trip to Disneyland or Walt Disney World? One of the most exciting parts of preparing for a Disney vacation is watching your savings grow. Today I’m sharing how to create a Disney-inspired vacation fund box using a 3D printer, acetate sheets, and a few basic craft supplies. Let’s get started!

How to Make a Disney Vacation Fund Box with a 3D Printer

Printing the Parts
Open the project files in Bambu Studio. If you have an AMS unit, you can use the included AMS version to print the shorts and buttons in multiple colors during a single print.
The project consists of:
- Front panel with viewing window
- Back panel
- Shorts base
- Decorative buttons
The front panel requires supports because of the money slot opening. After printing, carefully remove the supports and lightly file any rough edges around the slot.
Creating the Clear Window
The clear window allows you to see your savings as they accumulate. I used American Crafts acetate sheets and doubled them up to create a thicker window.
Option 1: Cricut Design Space
A matching template is available in Cricut Design Space. Since it uses a licensed shape, you may need to purchase the file if you don’t already own it.
Option 2: Printable Template
If you don’t have a Cricut machine, simply print the free template, trace it onto your acetate sheets, and cut them by hand.
Cut two identical acetate pieces.
Important Glue Tip
Do not use super glue on acetate.
Super glue can react with the plastic and create a white cloudy film that permanently fogs the window.
Instead, use:
- Beacon 3-in-1 (Fabric Tac worked too!)
- Clear craft glue
- Hot glue (with caution)
Installing the Window
Before gluing, test fit the acetate inside the opening.
Depending on the material and manufacturing tolerances, you may need to trim the acetate slightly to achieve a perfect fit.
Apply a thin bead of glue around the perimeter of the opening, staying away from the visible edge to prevent glue from squeezing onto the window.
Press the first acetate layer into place.
Next, apply another thin layer of glue and place the second acetate layer on top.
Allow the adhesive to cure completely before continuing.
Adding the Decorative Buttons
The decorative buttons attach to the shorts section.
Apply a small amount of Gorilla Glue or your preferred adhesive to the back of each button and center them carefully on the shorts.
Allow the glue to dry completely.
Assembly
Once everything is dry, assemble the savings box.
Insert the back panel into the rear opening. The panel should snap securely into place.
I do not recommend gluing the back panel because you’ll eventually need to remove your savings.
The shorts base can be positioned in different ways depending on the look you prefer. You can leave it removable or permanently attach it with glue.
Important Usage Note
This project is intended for:
- Dollar bills
- Gift money
- Savings challenge inserts
- Notes and keepsakes
It is not designed for coins.
Heavy coins can place excessive stress on the window and are not recommended.
Customization Ideas
One of my favorite things about this project is how easy it is to personalize.
Try:
Change the Colors
Customize the shorts and buttons to match your favorite color scheme.
Create a Minnie Version
Add a bow made from:
- 3D printed files
- Cardstock
- Fabric
- Ribbon
Add a Decorative Background
Use the included template to cut scrapbook paper and place it behind the window for additional color and personality.
Personalize with Vinyl
Add:
- Names
- Vacation dates
- Family names
- Year of your trip
Vinyl looks great applied directly to the front window.
Start Saving for Your Next Adventure
Once assembled, simply start adding your vacation funds and watch your savings grow.
Whether you’re planning a Disney vacation, cruise, birthday celebration, or another special event, this project is a fun and motivating way to work toward your goal.
