Halloween is just around the corner and I’m so excited that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. That means more time to party with the kiddos!
Today, I’m sharing how EASY it is to create a kid friendly Witchy Halloween Party! If you have been following the blog, you will know that I’ve been sharing a lot of Halloween Parties during the last several weeks. But looking at my posts, I felt I needed to share a kid friendly theme too!
Not So Spooky Halloween Party Plan
During my most recent trip to Walmart I made a point to go check out the not-so-spooky decor. I admit, I went a little crazy when I saw all the cute favor boxes, decorations and treats! So many cute new items that I just had pick up a little bit of everything. If you know me at all, you’ll know that it’s hard for me to pass up a good deal on party decor!
When planning a Halloween party, the first thing to do is decide on a theme. There are so many Kid Friendly themes to chose from such as a Witch party, cute ghosts, monster lab, spiders or jack-o-lanterns, just to name a few. Halloween doesn’t have to be scary for the wee ones to have fun!
Decorations
After you have decided on a theme, the first thing you need to do when planning a party is to take an inventory of what you have and what you need to pick up for your party. Once I saw the plastic cauldrons at Walmart, I knew immediately that I wanted to have a Witch themed party. I already had a large wooden Witch cutout in my Halloween inventory from years passed as well as plenty of purple tulle for a backdrop. So this was going to be a cinch to throw together. I picked up several cauldrons, favor boxes, LED spooky trees, black cat luminaries, cupcake wrappers/toppers as well as some Fanta Orange Soda for Witches’ Brew and OREO cookies for Witches’ Cauldron Cupcakes.
Every Witch needs a Black Cat! So these luminaries are perfect, all I had to do was add a battery operated LED tealight candle!
Use up your stash! If you have a collection of Halloween paper, keep your costs down by incorporating some handmade decor. I wanted to use up some of my scrapbook paper so I made a simple banner with my Sizzix Big Shot. If you don’t have time to make your own, I saw several cute designs at Walmart as well, at a great price!
SPOOKY SNACKS
You can’t have a Halloween party without plenty of #SpookySnacks! Candy corn, cookies, popcorn, cupcakes and assorted candies are my favorite snacks for Halloween parties.
Have you seen the new Glow in the Dark OREO cookies? The single serving packaging actually glows in the dark! And they fit perfectly in the little cauldrons.
These ready-to-go Witches’ Brew favor boxes are perfect for popcorn! It’s a great candy alternative as well!
Bake a batch of Witches Cauldron Cupcakes (recipe below) and add coordinating cupcake wrappers and black cat toppers to carry on the theme.
I also found these adorable label cupcake toppers at Walmart. They include coordinating paper straws for easy assembly. You don’t even need to plug in the glue gun!
Candy corn is a must for any Halloween Party! Just fill some treat buckets and favor bags and you are sure to please all the ghosts and ghouls!
I had so much fun creating this recipe for EASY Witches’ Cauldron Cupcakes! Can you believe there are only 3 ingredients (not counting the icing/decorations)?
Don’t forget the candy!
PARTY FAVORS
No one likes to leave a party empty handed! Set out plenty of candy filled party favor boxes and bags for your guests to enjoy after the party. These EASY Black Cat Party Favors were a cinch to make, check out my tutorial!
These fun Frankie boxes include cupcake inserts, perfect for the guests to take their treats home!
Don’t forget the Fanta! I had these cute little felt witch hats in my stash and they fit perfectly on the mini cans of Fanta!
WITCHES’ BREW
Whip up some kid friendly Witches’ Brew with little effort!
Just scoop your favorite vanilla ice cream in a glass jar and add Fanta. It really doesn’t get easier than that and it’s so delicious!
The vanilla and orange make a beautiful “Brew”, don’t you think?
Add some washi tape to a coordinating paper straw and you have the perfect concoction for all your little witches and wizards!
Remember those label cupcake toppers? They are great for bottle tags too! Just attach them with double sided tape for a little extra detail!
You can find Fanta at Walmart in the center aisles and at a rollback price!
WITCHES’ CAULDRON CUPCAKES
Every self-respecting Witch has a cauldron! So whip up some Easy 3 ingredient cupcakes in a snap with Fanta, vanilla cake mix and OREO cookies!
What You Will Need:
- 1 box Vanilla Cake Mix
- 1 cup crushed OREO cookies
- 12 oz. Fanta Orange Soda
Decorations:
- Icing
- Green Gel Food Coloring
- Candy Bones
- Candy Pearls
- Candy Eyeballs
Combine the cake mix, crushed OREO cookies and Fanta Orange Soda.
Mix with an electric mixer for 2 minutes on medium speed.
Fill black cupcake liners 3/4 full. Bake for 19 minutes at 350 degrees.
While the cupcakes are baking, either whip up your favorite buttercream frosting or open up a container of ready-made icing. Do what’s easiest for you, I won’t judge! 😉
Add some green gel food coloring to your icing of choice and mix well. Fill a piping bag and set aside.
Once the cupcakes have cooled get ready to decorate!
I had these fun cauldron can covers which worked perfectly for cauldron cupcakes! I just put a nut cup upside down inside the cauldron and set the cupcake on top before icing.
If you don’t have little cauldrons that’s okay! The black cupcake wrappers work just fine by themselves!
Apply icing, making a wavy pattern for the bubbling brew.
Add some candy pearls for “bubbles”.
And add candy bones and candy eyeballs for fun! What do you think? Was that easy or what?
You can find the OREO cookies with the Glow in the Dark packaging in the snack aisle at Walmart. Perfect for Trick-or-Treaters or class parties!
You can also find the Fanta 2 -liter bottles, 12 oz. cans and mini cans in the soda aisle. Fanta is not only available in Orange, I also saw Strawberry and Pineapple flavors!
