Today, I’m excited to be sharing my project for the Winter & Holidays Craft Challenge headed by Colby of Love Joy Glitter. Colby had a fun idea to start a craft challenge where a few of us crafters receive a box of items and have to create something using only those items. How fun!
So let’s kick it off!
The content of our first box:
- 12″ by 40″ of Burlap
- 1 yard of mesh
- 1 bottle of glitter glue
- Burlap Clothespin
- 15 feet of floral wire
- Four 9″ dowels
- Robin Egg Paint
- Sharpie
- And the box the contents arrived in
We were to create something using at least 3 of the products using only glue, scissors, paintbrushes and pushpins if we needed to hang something.
I started my project by drawing a rectangle out of the cardboard box using the dowel as a ruler and a sharpie.
I then cut out the rectangle.
I cut the burlap in half and set one half aside. I then began tracing the rectangle on the other piece of burlap.
I traced and cut 12 rectangles total and placed them on the remaining piece of burlap. Spacing them three to a row with a total of 4 rows. I then glued three sides of each rectangle to the burlap to create pockets.
Next, I glued one dowel to the underside of the bottom of the burlap, rolling it like a scroll. I also glued a dowel to the top. I then glued a strip of scrap burlap to the top dowel so I can hang the calendar on the wall.
Then I painted a large number on each pocket with a paintbrush.
While the paint was drying, I made a bow with the remaining burlap.
I scrunched the center of the burlap and threaded the floral wire through to secure the bow.
Next, I added a bit of paint to the center and sides of the bow for detail.
And that’s it! A rustic burlap Advent calendar perfect for notes or candy for the 12 days of Christmas! Simple and fun!
Thank you Colby for organizing our first challenge, I had fun! Can’t wait until next quarter!
