If you have been following me on Facebook and Instagram, you know that I am working on a little Monsters University party for my son Liam. (See my tutorial for DIY Party Favor Bags.)
I planned on making Mike Wazowski popcorn balls for the dessert table, but I couldn’t find the apple ring candies I needed, so I got to thinking about Sulley and came up with these.
I am always looking for fast and easy ways to make treats, because like most moms I just don’t have the time for long drawn out items on my to-do list. Popcorn balls are super easy and a fun treat to make with the kids. (I’ve been making them since I was a little girl, they were my Daddy’s favorite sweet treat.)
What you will need to get started:
1. 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
2. 1 10 oz. package marshmallows
3. 1 tbs butter
4. 14 purple candy melts
5. non-stick cooking spray
6. wax paper
7. glass bowl
8. large mixing bowl
9. silicone spatula/spoon
10. electric blue food coloring gel
Step 1.
Pop your popcorn. (I use an air popper.) Set aside 1 handful of popcorn and put the rest in a large mixing bowl.
Step 2:
Microwave the purple candy melts for about 30 seconds until melted. Scatter the handful of popcorn you put aside on a piece of wax paper. Pour the candy over the popcorn and mix to make sure they are thoroughly covered and separate the kernels. Let stand until hardened.
Step 3.
Put the marshmallows in a glass bowl with the butter in the center and microwave for about 1 minute and 15 seconds.
Step 4:
Add a squeeze of Electric Blue food coloring gel in the melted marshmallows
And stir.
Step 5:
Add the marshmallow to the popcorn.
And mix in by hand.
TIP: Spray your hands with the non-stick cooking spray before mixing, this will keep the marshmallows from sticking to your fingers too much.
Use caution, the marshmallow will be very hot! (I always do this part when making them with the boys, so that they don’t get burned.)
Step 5:
Compress the popcorn marshmallow mix into a ball, should make about 6.
Step 7:
Insert the purple popcorn you made earlier into your popcorn ball.
There you have it! Sulley Popcorn Balls! Super easy and super yummy!
Have fun!
Thanks for visiting!

Hi 🙂 How far in advance could you make these before they go soft/hard?
This is so cute. My son would love it because he loves popcorn and his favorite color is blue!! Thanks for linking up to Party Time on Moms & Munchkins and we hope to see you next week.
So cute! Such a fun activity idea to do along with the kids plus they would have such a fun time eating them.
