How to Sublimate a Faux Leather Wristlet and Bag Set
Have you been wanting to make your own faux leather wristlets? How about a cute wristlet and bag set? This makes a great gift, especially when you can create a personalized design! I found this cute image of a black Labradoodle at Creative Fabrica and it looks exactly like my muppet Oliver! If you don’t know about Creative Fabrica, there are hundreds of thousands of graphics to choose from on this site. Everything you need to start designing mugs, shirts, and tumblers. Any theme you can think of! You can enroll in a membership with access to all the elements in their catalog or purchase designs a la carte at a reasonable price. So with this design I created a repeat pattern in Canva to sublimate on a sheet of faux leather. I created a video to show you a process…check it out below.
Now that you’ve seen the easy process, let’s go over the details!
What you will need to a sublimate Faux Leather wristlet:
- Plain White Faux Leather
- Cutting machine, scissors or rotary cutter, and ruler
- HTVRONT Sublimation Vinyl (I used matte)
- AutoPress or Heat Press
- Sublimation Printer (I have an Epson SureColor F170)
- Sublimation Paper
- Butcher Paper
- Heat Resistant Tape
Step 1:
Start by printing your design on sublimation paper with your sublimation printer. Seamless designs work great for this kind of project.
Step 2:
Next, trim the plain white faux leather to 8.5×11 size. You can do this with a Cricut for a precise cut or simply with a ruler and scissors or a rotary cutter. If you use your Cricut Maker or Explore 3, you will need the deep point blade and a strong grip mat with painter’s tape. Be sure to put the smooth side down.
Step 3:
Place a piece of butcher paper on the AutoPress, then the faux leather on top with the smooth side up. Next, trim the sublimation HTV to 8.5×11 size.
Step 4:
Place the vinyl on top with the glossy side up and secure with heat-resistant tape. Add another sheet of butcher paper on top to protect your press.
Step 5:
Follow the pressing instructions on the vinyl and press. Cool peel the carrier sheet.
Step 6:
Next, place the faux leather back on the butcher paper with the vinyl side up and lay the sublimation print on top. Secure with heat-resistant tape. Press for 50 seconds and warm peel the paper to reveal the design!
How to Make a Key Chain Wristlet
What you will need:
- Glitter HTV
- Key Fob Hardware and Tool
- Rotary Cutter or Scissors
Step 1: Start by cutting the HTV to 8.5 x 11 size.
Step 2: Place the faux leather face down on the heat press on top of the butcher paper.
Step 3: Place the HTV on top with the glossy side up. Cover with butcher paper.
Step 4: Press at 340 degrees for 10 seconds.
Step 5: Warm peel the carrier sheet.
Step 6: Now you have a two-sided faux leather sheet. Trim the sheet in 1 x 11 strips.
Step 7: Fold in half with the printed side out and add the keychain hardware with the crimping tool.
How to Make a Matching Bag
What you will need:
- AutoPress or Heat Press
- Sublimation Printer (I have an Epson SureColor F170)
- Sublimation Paper
- Butcher Paper
- Heat Resistant Tape
- Design of your choice
- Sublimation Cosmetic Bag
Step 1:
Heat the press to 390 degrees with the timer at 60 seconds.
Step 2:
Place a small piece of butcher paper inside the bag to make sure the ink doesn’t bleed through.
Step 3:
Place your design on the bag and secure it with heat-resistant tape. Don’t forget to place a piece of butcher paper under the bag to protect the heat pad as well as over the bag to protect the press.
Step 4:
Press. Then remove the butcher paper to reveal the design. Repeat steps 1 -3 for the reverse side, making sure to replace the butcher paper with new pieces.
Step 5:
Attach the key fob to the zipper on the bag to complete the look!
