How to Make Non-Slip Socks with Puff Vinyl
I have recently been experimenting with puff vinyl, and I love it! There has been some trial and error throughout the process, but I’m happy to report that I’ve figured it out! We have tile floors and wood stairs, which means non-slip socks are a must-have. So when I was goofing around with the puff vinyl I thought it would be an awesome way to make socks less slippery. I only had white puff vinyl on hand and didn’t have any colored socks, so I made my own with sublimation and infusible ink sheets. You can of course skin the sublimation part and jump right into the puff vinyl section of this tutorial to suit your needs. So, let’s get the project underway…
What you will need:
Clam Shell Heat Press (I tried my Cricut AutoPress and HTVRONT Auto Press and neither machine provided the right amount of pressure, I recommend the traditional Clamshell Heat Press for Puff Vinyl)
A fun Sock Design Like this one in Cricut Design Space.
I created a quick video tutorial to show you the process, check it out below:
Let’s walk through the steps…
How to Make Non-Slip Socks with Puff Vinyl
Step 1:
Open your design in Cricut Design Space and send it to your Cricut machine. I used my Cricut Joy, but you can use any Cricut machine.
Step 2:
Apply the Puff HTV, shiny side down, on your mat and cut. Then weed.
Step 3:
To sublimate your socks, place the inserts in your socks. Heat the press to 390 degrees. Wrap the infusible ink sheets around the socks and secure them with heat tape as shown in the video.
Step 4:
Place butcher paper on the press, then the socks and another piece of butcher paper and press for 60 seconds. When done, flip and repeat.
Step 5:
Remove the socks from the press and remove the infusible ink sheets to reveal the designs.
Step 6:
Next, reduce the temp to 310 degrees. Once the press is ready, line up the HTV on the bottom of the socks and press for 10 seconds. Open the press to reveal the puffed HTV. Remove the carrier sheet. (check the instructions, some puff is cool peel, some is warm)
And that’s it! Super cute custom made non-slip socks!
What do you think? Wasn’t that simple? I hope you try this fun project out and if you do, please tag me on social media @michellespartyplanit. I’d love to see what you create!
