DIY Lightbox Marquee Holiday Countdown
This project is super fun and a great way to customize your marquee letterbox with common crafting tools and the Cricut. I actually created this project over a year ago and didn’t realize I hadn’t shared it here with you! It was a big hit on social media and is still going strong. So let’s get into what you will need to recreate this project…
What you will need:
Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker
Permanent Vinyl (I used SmartVinyl and my Roll Holder)
Weeding Tool
Burnishing Tool
My Project in Cricut Design Space
I created a detailed quick video showing the process, check it out below:
Let’s go over the steps a little slower…
Step 1:
Put a thermal laminating pouch through the laminator with the heat setting on. This will create a clear sheet that will you will apply vinyl to make the words and letters. I think I started wih 5 sheets and made more as I needed them.
Step 2:
Open my project in Cricut Design Space. I have it already sized for the 10×13 Heidi Swapp marquee. Make any necessary adjustments to fit your lightbox. Hide everything except the Blank Banners and Blank Numbers.
Step 3:
Load your Mat with the Clear sheets you made, change the qty to 10 and move the banners to make sure they fit on your sheets. Set the materials to transparency and select more pressure. Cut. Repeat for the blank numbers.
Step 4:
Return to Cricut Design Space hide the blank banners and blank numbers, and unhide the holidays and numbers. Click Make It.
Step 5:
Load permanent vinyl on your mat, select permenant vinyl as your material and cut.
Step 6:
Weed the vinyl. Apply Transfer tape, burnish and remove it from the backing. Center the vinyl on the blank banners and blank numbers and apply.
Step 7:
Insert the numbers, letters and holodays to the lightbox and you’re all set!
