How to Make Wall Art
I recently expanded my craft studio area and needed a little something for my walls. So of course I went straight to Cricut Design Space to see what I could make with my Cricut Maker 3. I wanted to create something with some dimension. I worked with Chipboard and my Cricut Maker before when I made some Party Props, so thought it would be perfect for this project. I found a cute pair of scissors and a spool in Design Space that are just right for this project, so let’s get into it.
What you will need:
Cricut Maker or Cricut Maker 3
Yarn
Foam Adhesive or Hot Glue
Wood Panel
This Design in Cricut Design Space
I created a quick video for you, check it out below…
Let’s go over the steps…
Step 1:
Open the design in Cricut Design Space. Resize as needed. Send it to your Cricut Maker/Maker 3 and select Heavy Chipboard as your material. Change your blade to the Knife Blade. Collaborate if needed.
Step 2:
Apply the vinyl to the top of the chipboard. Secure the Chipboard to the Strong Grip Mat with masking tape and move the white wheels on the machine all the way over to the right-hand side.
Step 3:
This is the part that takes a bit of time. The blade will cut the design 24 times and will take about 15 minutes to complete. Remove the die cut and repeat the process for the next design.
Step 4:
While the designs are cutting, apply the HTV to the wood panel with the mini press set on high. It doesn’t take much time to press the vinyl on the wood, just apply consistent pressure. Use a Brayer to smooth out wrinkles. Make 2 panels.
Step 5:
Add yarn to the spool design and apply foam adhesive tape to the back of both the scissors and spool. Press them on the wood panels.
What do you think? I love how they turned out. I really prefer the smooth finish of vinyl on the chipboard and wood instead of using paint. It gives it a nice clean look.
I hope you give this project or technique a try. If you do, please tag me on social media @michellespartyplanit. I’d love to see your creations!
