How to Make Hand Puppets with Cricut
I love it when I can combine several crafting techniques to create a cute craft like these Halloween Hand Puppets. For this craft, we will combine sublimation, Print then Cut with Cricut and sewing! If you don’t have a sublimation printer, you can always alter the project and make it with HTV, but for the sake of this tutorial, we will be using sublimation. Let’s go over the list of materials you will need to get started…
What you will need:
Cricut Machine (Maker or Maker 3)
Heat Press (I used my Cricut AutoPress)
White Craft Felt (I use Craftology 100% polyester from Michaels)
Strong Grip Mat
Rotary Blade
Sewing Machine/Needle and Thread (you can make this project with fabric glue for a no-sew craft)

I also created a quick video showing you how to sublimate, cut and sew the hand puppets below:
Let’s walk through the steps:
Step 1:
Open my project in Cricut Design Space. It is already sized for printing on 8.5×11 paper. Mirror the images on your sublimation printer but not in Cricut Design Space. Turn off bleed and I personally like to use the dialog system to set my printer parameters. Next, load the sublimation paper in your sublimation printer and print.
Step 2:
Now we move on to the sublimation part as shown in the video. Set your heat press to 400 degrees for 60 seconds. Place butcher paper down. Place the print on top of the felt, face down, and secure it with heat-resistant tape. Cover with butcher paper and press.
Step 3:
When done, remove the paper. Repeat for all three designs.
Step 4:
Load the Rotary Blade in the Cricut Maker, place the printed felt on a strong grip mat, and secure it with painter’s tape.
Step 5:
In Cricut Design Space, select Acrylic Fabric from the materials list and use more pressure. Load the mat and cut. Remove the cut pieces from the mat when done. Repeat for all designs and 3 of the plain back panels.
Step 6:
Pair a design with the blank back panel with the printed side on top. You will be sewing with a top stitch. Pin or use clips to secure the two pieces together.
Step 7:
Sew along the edge leaving the bottom open.
And that’s it! Super cute handmade Halloween Hand Puppets! Aren’t they adorable? I love how they came out and they are the perfect size for little hands!
I hope you give this project a try, please tag me on social media @michellespartyplanit if you do. I’d love to see your hand puppets!

Could you please make this cute file so it can be editable in design space? I would love to cut felt and htv on my maker and make these 3 puppets for an upcoming fundraiser. So adorable! Thank you.
Hi! It should work now, let me know if it doesn’t. Thanks!
Thank you! Got it! So excited to try the glow in the dark htv from cricut for the skeleton!
