How to Print Then Cut Chipboard
I love trying new things with my Cricut Maker and Maker 3. I feel creating with the Cricut Maker/Maker 3 is only limited to my imagination! I especially like to create new techniques with common craft supplies. This project is just a sample of what you can do if you combine sticker paper, holographic laminate sheets, heavy chipboard and the Print then Cut feature in Cricut Design Space. Let’s get into it!
What you will need:
Cricut Maker or Cricut Maker 3
InkJet Printer
Holographic Printable Sticker Paper
Self Laminating Holographic Sheets

I created a quick video showing the cutting process, check it out below:
Let’s walk through the steps:
Step 1:
Open the design in Cricut Design Space. Resize as needed. Click Make It to print. Load your inkjet printer with the sticker paper and print. I deselect bleed and use the system dialog to select my printing preferences. With my printer, I select High Quality and Photo Paper as my material.
Step 2:
Once printed, apply the holographic laminate sheet on top of the design. (You can trim the sheet so that you don’t cover the registration marks.) Next, remove the backing of the sticker paper and apply it to the chipboard. Be sure to get it as close to the corner as possible. Use a brayer to secure the adhesive.
Step 3:
Flip over the chipboard and apply the holographic sticker paper to the back. Use the brayer to secure the adhesive
Step 4:
In Cricut Design Space select Heavy Chipboard as your material. Change your blade to the Knife Blade. Collaborate if needed. Secure the Chipboard to the Strong Grip Mat with masking tape and move the white wheels on the machine all the way over to the right-hand side. Cut, it should take about 6 minutes with the Cricut Maker 3.
Step 5:
Once cut, check to make sure it cut through the sticker paper in the back. Remove the mat from the machine. Carefully remove the hanger, the holographic sticker paper might stick to the mat, if so, just reapply it carefully while lining it up with the chipboard. Use a brayer to secure the adhesive.
What do you think? Isn’t it cute? I like that it’s finished on both sides. Doesn’t it look store-bought? With this technique, you can make any style of door hanger you want in Cricut Design Space. I’ve seen a couple of door hanger styles you can combine with your favorite backgrounds and phrases with Cricut Access. I hope you are inspired to create one of your own!
