I’m so excited to share with you a Toy Story party I styled recently. The Toy Story franchise is one of my all time favorites with Toy Story 3 being my favorite of the 3 movies. I had so much fun with this one!
The first thing I do when styling a party is I “shop” through my house to see what I can reuse or re-purpose, kid parties are no different. So I started with the toys from my sons’ rooms. With 3 boys we’ve accumulated quite the collection through the years starting with my eldest son’s beloved Woody. He’s been with us for a very long time and has taken quite the beating over the years. He and Buzz were handed down to Gavin several years ago and now live happily with Liam.
The Dessert Table and Decor:
For the backdrop, I used the iconic clouds from Andy’s room and added Liam’s name in a crayon font inspired by Andy’s name on Woody’s boot. Using my Silhouette, I made red monkeys, cloud boxes, Pizza Planet pizza boxes and Sid’s shirt. I made cow print table runners and also made a coordinating rag garland out of bandannas for a whole $4! For the “College”, “Sunnyside” and “Attic” moving boxes, I didn’t have any tiny cardboard boxes, so I improvised and used kraft gable boxes from Pick your Plum that I had in my stash. I just cut off the handles, and viola, miniature moving boxes to hold toy topped cupcakes! I also found the cutest Buzz Lightyear favor boxes and gliders on Amazon.com. Not sure if you can tell, but Woody is sitting on an alphabet block tissue box I found at Target on clearance, love when that happens!
The Sweets:
Inspired by these Pig Cupcakes on Parenting.com I baked “Hamm” inspired strawberry cupcakes. I admit it, I have limited cake/cookie decorating skills, so instead of commissioning pizza cookies for my “Pizza Planet” pizza boxes, I decided to bake my own cookies. I wrapped them in plastic wrap and topped them with a pizza sticker. I figured the kids wouldn’t mind. I made alien marshmallow pops by dipping them in lime green chocolate and added pre-made candy eyes from Wilton. Using Twizzlers and marshmallows I made Sunnyside Daycare rainbows but my personal favorite dessert was the “There’s a snake in my boot!” chocolate pudding boot cups. I also decorated large lime green ice cream cups with alien faces and added a heap of popcorn for my little popcorn lovers. I filled candy jars with “Buttercup” Unicorn horns, “Green Army Men” gumballs, “Sunnyside Daycare” rainbow Skittles and Twizzlers, Red “Sid” gumballs, “Big Baby’s” Bottles, “Monkeys in a Barrel” banana runts and yellow “Woody” gumballs wrapped with a bandana and lasso.
Paper Stationery:
In addition to the backdrop, I made Jessie and Woody hat stickers for the candy containers, Pizza Planet stickers, pizza stickers, toy character cupcake toppers, a Welcome door sign, tent cards, “Sunnyside Snack” favor bag toppers, favor tags and Buzz Lightyear inspired candy bar wrappers. I also made a photo booth backdrop and props for play time along with the “Put the Eye on the Alien” game.
Party Favors:
I set up a little table with all the party favors. I found bubble gum blasters, army men, kaleidoscope rockets. A while back I found a set of 6 silver piggy banks on clearance at Micheal’s for $2 that I painted pink for “Hamm”.
Activities:
We had the most fun decorating Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head cereal treats. I found some silicone ice trays on Amazon.com that I used to make candy hats, mustaches, lips and bows. We used pink marshmallows for ears, sour cherry balls for noses and non edible googly eyes. We frosted potato shaped cereal treats with caramel apple frosting and stood them up on plastic potato head shoes I found in the boys’ toy box. The boys played Cowboy dress up, “Put the eye on the Alien” and posed in the photo booth with fun photo props.
“There’s a snake in my boot!” Ok, not really. It’s just a gummy worm!
These alien faces are actually party hats I made, but decided the cups needed a little something extra.
Alert! Pizza Impostures!
“Oh no! It’s Sid!”
Can you believe this only cost me $4 to make?
Say Cheese!
Ooooooooh!
We made Mr. Potato Head cereal treats!
Playtime!
Look Mom! I did it!!!!
Someone’s proud of himself! lol!
The boys and I had a blast. I hope you find lots of inspiration for your next Toy Story party!
Thanks for visiting and God bless!

Too perfect! Lovely!
Thank you! 🙂
LOVE it! Now I can’t decide if we should stick with construction for his next party or do Toy Story. He loves Toy Story so I have a feeling we’ll be switching our theme. His party isn’t until May so I may be planning a bit too early. 🙂
Thank you! And it’s never too early to plan! 😉 Both themes are so fun, that’s a tough one!
I’m so excited to take some time and truly study all your details! What an absolutely fantastic Toy Story party! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Thank you so very much! 🙂
Hi, this is perfect! is Liam’s hat available at your shop?
Hi there! Thank you for stopping by!, No sorry, it is not, Liam received it as a birthday gift a couple of years ago. But we do have cowboy and cowgirl party hats that coordinate nicely!

Where did you get the small boots for pudding?
From Oriental Trading Company. 🙂
How did these hold up? I see where they only hold 2 oz’s, was that enough for the kiddos? Do they leak?
They were great! They did not leak. They were perfect for little hands with tiny spoons! It was the perfect portion for just a taste.
OH My! I remembered when my son was obsessed with Toy Story! This party is too cute, especially the snack in boots treat. I still might do that for a fun treat. Thank you for linking up to Party Time and we hope to see you again next week!
Thanks Cheryl! 🙂

What amazing, creative, delightful detail you put into this party! The pizza cookies in itty bitty boxes! The cupcakes in the sorting boxes! I’m in love.
Thank you so much Nikki!
Michelle, loved this theme party! Is there any way you can let me know where the boots were bought? I have only been able to find them in big??
Oriental Trading Company! 🙂
Could you please tell me how or where did you make the backdrop/banner, I am looking to make something like that for my son’s birthday.
By the way this party was amazing!!!
Hi Lilian, Thank you for stopping by! I designed the backdrop myself.
Do you make the backdrops and sell them? I want to do this for my daughters 4th Birthday? I’m Obsessed!!
Hi! I did make the backdrop, but I do sell items with licensed characters. Thanks!
I’m planning my own Toy Story party right now and mentioned in my planning post: https://hunnyimhomeblog.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/toy-story-birthday-pinspiration/. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Emily,

Michelle
Hi could you please tell me where you bought the brown boxes where the cupcakes are in. I’ve looked on oriental trading and I can’t find it 🙂
They were small gable boxes and I just cut off the handles. I think I got them from pick your plum, but it has been a couple of years! 😉 Have fun!!!
This is just gorgeous! Love every little detail!!! Where did you print your banner? I would love to make one as well?
Ironically, my sons name is also Liam and we are doing toy story for his first bday… How can I purchase the back drop? I saw you mention that you sell backdrops in another post.
Hi Chelsea, This particular backdrop is not for sale, I created it for my personal use. Happy 1st bday to your Liam and thank you!
Where did you get the supplies to make the banner for only $4?!?! My daughter is having a Toy Story themed party at the end of the month and I would love to make something like this for it!
Hi! I purchased 2 bandannas and 2 fat quarters at 99 cents each to make the garland banner. 🙂 I think I found them at Hobby Lobby. Happy Party Planning!
Awesome! Thank you very much! 🙂
Is there a printable available for the Thank You tag?
Hi, Sorry I do not have any printables for this theme. I designed them for this party only. Thanks!
How to you make the cow print table runners? I Iove them!
Hi! I folded cow print fabric in half and sewed along the edges. Super easy!
Hello! Love everything! Where did you gong the alien hats that has the popcorn in them?
Where did you get the pudding boot cups from?
Oriental Trading company. 🙂
Where did you find the Pizza Planet logo and boxes?
