How will you be celebrating the end of the school year? How about a School’s Out, Hello Summer Ice Cream Social? We welcomed Summer this past weekend with just that, a Summer Ice Cream Pool Party and I’m excited to share how you can too!
Let’s get started!
How to Throw an Ice Cream Social
Like any event, you’ll want to start with your invitations. Decide if you will invite all of your child’s classmates to join in on the fun, or just keep it a family affair. I found my invitation at Evite.com. Isn’t it darling?
There’s nothing like celebrating that school’s out with a lovely Ice-Cream Bar and pool party!
Once you have your invitation picked out, you’ll want to decide on your color palette for your decorations. I wanted to match my invite, so I decided to go with a combination of pastel pinks and blues.
When setting up for a party, I always like to start my table design with a backdrop. I hung baby pink tulle as my backdrop and a large inflatable Ice Cream pool toy for my center focal point.
Next, you will want to craft or purchase your decorations. I wanted to keep my table simple so I decided to handcraft my decor. I created an ice cream banner for my table and added some paper ice cream cones to store bought treat boxes.
How to Set Up an Ice-Cream Bar
When planning an Ice-Cream Social, you will need to decide what ice cream flavors and toppings you would like to serve. Blue Bunny® is my personal favorite ice-cream so I headed over to my local Walmart and stocked up on our favorite flavors. As well as some Smucker’s ice cream toppings and Keebler ice cream cones. I also grabbed some chocolate chips, shredded coconut, cherries and lots of sprinkles!
I love the new Blue Bunny® packaging! The clear packaging blended nicely with my party decor.
White doilies make the perfect cone wrappers! Display cones in pedestal glassware. Waffle cones display beautifully in an upright position, while sugar cones look great upside down.
You may also want to serve extra treats for guests, such as cupcakes and candies. Instead of my usual cupcakes, I topped little angel food cake bundts with buttercream frosting, sprinkles and a cherry sour to create “sundaes”.
You will want to create a “sundae station” for your guests to create their own sundaes. Simply provide an area for the ice cream scoop, dessert glasses and assorted toppings. A few of our favorite Smucker’s toppings are Hot Fudge topping and Hot Butterscotch. Yum!
I also wanted to create a homemade treat for our guests to enjoy so I whipped up a batch of Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwiches. These were super easy to make and oh, so delicious! Everyone raved about them!
Easy Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- Smucker’s Magic Shell Chocolate Flavored Topping
- Blue Bunny® Homemade Vanilla
- Sprinkles
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix peanut butter, egg and sugar in a small mixing bowl.
Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Lightly flatten with the palm of your hand. Bake for 12 minutes. Once baked, let cookies cool then put them in the freezer for 15 mins.
Next, gather your ice cream, scoop and Magic Shell.
Sandwich a small scoop of ice cream between two cookies and then freeze for 15 minutes.
Drip Magic Shell over the sandwich, starting with the ice cream portion.
Then move on to the rest of the cookie sandwich. Warning, this is the messy part.
Next, add some sprinkles and freeze until you are ready to serve!
Be sure to make at least two batches, these will be the first treats to be eaten for sure!

Michelle, you did a knock out job on this gorgeous post, very worth of a 4 page spread in Martha Stewart Living! You caught my attention with “ice cream social” in your subject line (ie. Sizzix facegroup), I haven’t heard that term used since I was a little girl where I church would hold one once a year in the summer and I had a blast! I didn’t know people used that term anymore since I haven’t heard it used since. All your photos were gorgeous (beautiful colors and lighting, I know it was a lot of hard work so I hope you were well compensated!), my absolute fav was of your little boy smiling in the pool! You will cherish it forever! Thanks for the very awesome inspiration and beautiful time spent reading through your post!
Thank you so much Kathy! I really appreciate you taking the time to read and comment! We had a blast! Thanks again!!
