How to Make A Recipe Keepsake with Sublimation and Dollar Tree
Do you have a favorite recipe handed down by someone special? How about memorializing it with sublimation and Dollar Tree? This project is super easy to create if you have a sublimation printer. I created it with my Mom’s recipe for Apple Sauce Cake. I also made a matching Recipe Tea Towel a while back with the same recipe, and I love it!
What you will need:
- A family Recipe (scan with your phone or scanner)
- Mini Bamboo Cutting Board from Dollar Tree
- Thermal Laminating Sheets (used for laminating machines)
- Sublimation Paper
- Sublimation Printer
- Butcher Paper
- Heat Press (I used my EasyPress 2)
- Cutting Mat
- Craft Knife
I created a quick video to show you the steps, check it out below…
@michellespartyplanit Replying to @maemae19894 By request, here is how you sublimate on the mini cutting boards from @dollartree – I printed my Mom’s hand written recipe on sublimation paper. It’s a fun way to pass down recipes and would look cute in a gift basket. Now that I’ve demonstrated the process, let’s go through the steps…
Step 1:
Start by scanning your favorite family recipe either with your phone or a scanner. Print it on sublimation paper with your sublimation printer. Don’t forget to mirror your image before printing.
Step 2:
Heat your Easy Press to 385 degrees and set the timer for 60 seconds. Take a Laminating Pouch and tear it apart at the seam to get one sheet
Step 3:
Place the laminating sheet on top of the wood panel with the frosted side down. Place butcher paper on top of the design and under the wood panel to protect your heating pad. Place your easy press on top, apply pressure and hold until the timer beeps.
Step 4:
The laminating sheet will most likely adhere to your butcher paper, go ahead and cut around the wood, and using a craft knife and cutting mat, trim close to the edge so that no sheet overlaps the edges.
Step 5:
Place your printed design side down on top of the laminated wood, and secure it with heat transfer tape. Cover with Butcher paper and press again for another 60 seconds.
Step 6:
Remove the paper to reveal your design!
What do you think? Wasn’t that an easy project? It makes a nice gift like the sample below…and you don’t have to wait until Christmas! It would be a great Birthday, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day gift as well!

DIY Recipe Cutting Board without Sublimation
Don’t have a sublimation printer? No worries, here is another way you can make the same project with an ink jet printer!
@michellespartyplanit Replying to @jessicadoylespenc Experiment time! Don’t have a sublimation printer? Let’s see if ink transfer paper will work on these wood cutting boards from @dollartree. DIY Decorative Tray with the Dollar Tree Cutting Board
Need more ideas using the Dollar Tree Cutting Board? This is a fun decorative tray I made during the Christmas season, but you can make it all year long, just use a different paper pattern!
I hope these ideas inspire you to create something fun with sublimation and Dollar Tree or maybe one of the other projects created with the cutting board.
