How to Use the HTVRONT Manual Hat Heat Press
The Manual heat press can be used for sublimation, patch applications and heat transfer vinyl on a large variety of hat styles. Not only is it easy to use, it’s easy to set up. Let’s get into it.
Unboxing and Setup
When you first receive your HTVRONT Manual Hat Heat Press, you’ll find the following items inside the box:
- The heat press machine
- Five small feet with bolts (an extra foot is included)
- A user manual
- An extra heat platen for accommodating different hat sizes
Attaching the Feet
The first step is to attach the small feet using the included bolts. This ensures the machine stays stable during operation.
Changing the Hat Pad
The machine includes an extra heat pad that allows you to switch between different hat sizes. To swap the pad:
- Unscrew the bolts on both sides of the pad.
- Remove the current pad and insert the new one.
- Secure the new pad by tightening the bolts.
I used the wider heat pad for my projects to ensure an even press across the hat surface.
I created a quick video showing the process, check it out below:
Key Features of the HTVRONT Manual Hat Heat Press
- Digital Display:
- The machine features a digital display with controls for setting temperature and time.
- To adjust the temperature, press the toggle button, then use the increase/decrease buttons.
- The timer starts automatically when the lever is pulled down.
- Manual Operation:
- The press is manually operated, meaning you have full control over the pressure applied to the hat.
- Safety Features:
- The machine has an auto shut-off feature after 30 minutes of inactivity.
How to Press HTV on a Hat
Step 1: Preparing the Hat
- Start with a clean hat. Use a lint roller to remove any dust or fibers.
- Place the hat on the heat press pad, ensuring it is flat and secure.
Step 2: Adjusting Temperature and Time
- According to HTVRONT’s guidelines, set the temperature to 293°F and the time to 15 seconds for HTV on cotton hats.
- This project requires a cold peel, meaning you should wait for the HTV to cool before removing the transfer sheet.
Step 3: Applying the Design
- Position your HTV design on the hat and secure it with heat-resistant tape.
- Cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper to protect it from direct heat.
Step 4: Pressing the Hat
- Lower the lever to apply pressure and start the timer.
- Once the machine beeps, lift the lever and remove the hat.
- Allow the design to cool completely before peeling off the transfer sheet.
✅ Results: The HTV adhered well, leaving a professional, long-lasting design.
How to Apply a Sublimation Patch on a Hat
Step 1: Printing the Sublimation Design
- Print a mirrored image of your design using a sublimation printer (I used my Epson F170) on sublimation paper.
- Secure the printed design onto the sublimation patch with heat-resistant tape.
Step 2: Adjusting Temperature and Time
- Set the heat press to 390°F and a press time of 60 seconds.
Step 3: Positioning the Patch
- Lightly press the hat first to create a flat surface.
- Center the sublimation patch on the hat, ensuring it’s positioned correctly below any vent holes.
Step 4: Pressing the Sublimation Patch
- Cover the patch with butcher paper or a Teflon sheet.
- Press for 60 seconds. This process not only transfers the sublimation ink to the patch but also adheres the patch to the hat at the same time.
- Once done, carefully remove the butcher paper and check the transfer.
✅ Results: The sublimation design transferred beautifully, and the patch adhered firmly to the hat. I will say that I think the heat was a little high, I will be trying a lower temp next time.
The HTVRONT Manual Hat Heat Press is an excellent tool for crafters and small business owners looking to customize hats with HTV or sublimation patches. Here’s a quick summary of the pros and cons:
Pros:
✔️ Fixed hat stretcher ensures even pressing. ✔️ Digital controls for precise temperature and timing. ✔️ Compact and easy to store. ✔️ Great for both HTV, patches and sublimation. ✔️ Auto shut-off feature enhances safety. ✔️ Compatible with 99% of hat styles.
Cons:
❌ Manual operation requires effort compared to more expensive automatic models. ❌ Limited to hat applications—not designed to be used for shirts or other garments. (But I have a few ideas of other ways to use it, I’ll have to try them out and share them later.) 🙂
