Ahoy Mateys! How will you be celebrating Halloween this year? We recently started the celebration early with a fun Pirate Dinner Party for my sons. Pirate parties are one of my favorite themes. In fact, for our first Halloween Party back in 2004, I made us family Pirate Costumes! It was when Pirates of the Caribbean was just released and the Pirate craze started.
My son’s even had a pirate themed bedroom back in the day. Fast forward 12 years and here we are celebrating another Halloween with Pirates and now they are both in High School!
Pirate Dinner Party
This time around I wanted to create a scene straight out of a haunted pirate ship complete with treasure, candles and of course lots of skeletons! So I gathered some of my props from previous parties and combined them with some new pirate props and started decorating! We even grabbed every candle and candle holder in the house. My teenage sons helped me every step of the way, we really had fun with it!
The Decorations:
I dug out my map wall hanging that I used last year for my husband’s Father’s Day Party and decided it would make the perfect table covering. We then filled gold bowls with coins and scattered jewels on top of the table. We even added a few jeweled goblets and skulls for fun.
Next, I layered several fish nets under the map and off the chairs around the table.
I dressed up our family of Skeletons with assorted Pirate garb. This guy was designated Captain since he had the biggest hat. The fun hat is actually the same hat my son wore in the party back in 2004. Back then the hat was almost too big for his head! LOL
Every pirate ship need a treasure, so I filled a small treasure chest with coins, gold nuggets and jewels. We also added a huge lock.
Since the scene takes place in a haunted pirate ship, presumably crashed on a deserted island. We added some sea life that would possibly inhabit the ship with this group of scalawags. My son made sure each pirate had an eye patch.
This fun Skeleton came already dressed up for the occasion! He was actually my inspiration for our whole party! Not only does he have his own pet skeleton parrot, he has a built in hook and peg leg!
Pirate Shenanigans
My boys thought that the skeletons should be playing a round of poker, to pass the time. So each pirate had a hand of pirate themed playing cards. Don’t they look like they’re having a great time?
Lots of candles lit the Captain’s quarters, as the pirates and my boys laughed and filled up on their favorite drinks.
The Dessert Bar
You can’t have a proper dinner party without a dessert bar! I set up a side table and covered it with a pirate flag and more fish nets. Next, I added my favorite Tombstone prop and a pile of skulls for fun. And of course, we had to serve our Halloween favorite, Fanta®. I picked up a couple of 2 liters and a 12 pack at my local Family Dollar. We loved the Halloween Packaging designed by “Noma Bar”, it fit our theme perfectly!
I filled these creepy skeleton glasses with Fanta and set out some skeleton cookies.
I filled striped cups with my son’s favorite Fluffy Orange Ambrosia and added a fun little Pirate flag pick. Ambrosia is one of my favorite party desserts, you can make so many variations! I wanted something to complement the Orange Fanta and orange sugar cookies, and this ambrosia was perfect! Unlike traditional ambrosia, my version really stays fluffy!
