How to Make Wrapping Paper with Cricut
I don’t know about you, but I say wrapping paper is a scam! Sure, it’s cute and all but it’s more and more expensive these days and it just ends up in the trash/recycle bin. So why not make your own with stuff you probably already have on hand and your Cricut machine. I’m using my Cricut Venture because I wanted a large piece of wrapping paper, but you can use your regular Cricut machine with the 12×24 mat for wrapping smaller gifts.
Let’s go over what you will need:
Supplies Needed:
Cricut Machine of your Choice, I used my Venture.
Cricut Pens in colors of your choice, I used Black
Butcher Paper (I get mine from Sam’s Club, check out my video about it here)
Create a design in Cricut Design Space using the Draw and Cut feature. Or you can use my Happy Mother’s Day design that is already set up an ready to go.
I created a video for you t show the Cricut in action, check it out below:
Let’s go over the steps to create your own design in Cricut Design Space:
Step 1:
Open Cricut Design Space and star with a new Canvas. Search the image library for a “Draw Only” design or designs that suits your theme. Click add to Canvas.
Step 2:
Click on shapes from the right hand side and select Square. Resize the square to the the dimensions you need for your wrapping paper. I used 18×24. Change the color of the canvas to match your paper color. Mine is white.
Step 3:
Arrange your draw images on the rectangle. Resize as needed.
Step 4:
Using the duplicate feature, create a repeating pattern. Align as needed. Then group the images and attach them to the rectangle. Attaching them will tell the machine to draw then cut all at once, without unloading the machine.
Step 5:
Click make it to make sure the design looks correct on the screen, follow the prompts to load the pen and mats in your machine. Refer to the video to see my Cricut Venture in action!
Step 6:
Remove the mat from the machine and carefully remove the butcher paper by bending back the mat as I demonstrated in the video. This will reduce curling of the paper.
Now wrap your gift and you’re all set!
What do you think? Isn’t it a fun alternative for traditional gift wrapping? How fun would it be to design themed packages for the whole family for Christmas and Birthdays?
I hope you give this idea a try, if you do, please tag me on social @michellspartyplanit. I’d love to see what you make!
