If you have been following me on Instagram, you know that I am in party planning mode for my little man’s upcoming 5th birthday party. Last year we celebrated with a Western theme, this year he chose an Army theme to celebrate the big 5! I’m having a blast planning for his little shindig and I can’t wait to show you all the fun DIY projects I have been working on.
Today, I’m sharing how easy it is to make your own Army themed Fabric Garland with the Sizzix Big Shot Pro. I literally was able to make this garland in less than 15 minutes!
Years before party planning, sewing was my first passion. My Nana taught me how to sew and I fell in love with it immediately. l still love to sew and create projects with fabric when time allows. So when I saw the Sizzix Big Shot Pro and quilting dies, I knew I had to have one of my own. The Sizzix Bigz Pro 25″ Die – 2″ Wide Strips can be used for quilt binding, but is not limited to quilting and sewing projects. When I saw it, I immediately knew I could use it for making no sew fabric garlands! No more cutting strips of fabric by hand for me!
Don’t have a Sizzix Big Shot Pro? This project can also be done with the Sizzix Big Shot and the Sizzix Bigz XL 25″ Die- 2 ” Wide Strips!
How to Make a Fabric Garland
What you will need:
Sizzix Big Shot Pro w/extended Accessories
Sizzix Big Shot Pro Extended Cutting Pads
Sizzix Bigz Pro 25″ Die – 2″ Wide Strips
Scrap Fabric
Rope or Ribbon
Start by making a sandwich with the Big Shot Pro Extended Cutting Pads and the Sizzix Bigz Pro 25″ Die – 2″ Wide Strips. A sandwich consists of 1 cutting pad, the die, your scrap fabric and a second cutting pad. For my army themed garland, I used scrap olive green duck cloth and camouflage cotton fabric.
Roll the sandwich through the Big Shot Pro by turning the handle.
You will now have several perfectly cut strips of fabric.
Repeat the process until you have the desired amount of fabric strips. This amount will depend on the desired length of your garland. For my garland, which I will hang in the front of my dessert table, I cut 14 strips of each color.
Next, tie the top of each fabric to the rope or ribbon. Because I want a rugged military look, I chose rope for my garland. Space the fabric strips evenly across the length of your rope.
Finally, hang your fabric garland! It’s that easy!
